Many years ago, I started out with a three-part plan: 1) have a baby. 2) Wait a few years. 3) Adopt a second child. Instead, I reversed the steps, and changed “a few years” in No. 2 to, um, “six months.” Now, I spend my time making sure Eena, 5 and a half, adopted from China in January 2007, always has her astronaut costume, and that Baba, 4, always has a princess dress on.
